GreenLight Laser Therapy for Enlarged Prostate (BPH)

An enlarged prostate — benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH — is one of the most common conditions men face with age. It causes a weak stream, frequent urination, getting up at night, and incomplete emptying. When medication is no longer enough, GreenLight Laser Therapy offers a minimally invasive, long-lasting solution without the longer recovery of traditional prostate surgery.

GreenLight Center of Excellence · Boston Scientific · since December 2020

Dr. Edward Gheiler, MD, FACS has been designated a GreenLight Center of Excellence by Boston Scientific since December 2020 — a recognition reserved for surgeons with a high degree of experience in GreenLight Laser Therapy. It is a credential most urologists offering the procedure do not hold.

How GreenLight works

GreenLight uses a laser to gently vaporize excess prostate tissue that is blocking urine flow (a technique called photoselective vaporization of the prostate, or PVP). Because the laser seals blood vessels as it works, GreenLight is well suited even to men on blood thinners, with less bleeding and a faster return to normal activity than older surgical options. Most patients go home the same day.

Is GreenLight right for you?

GreenLight may be a good option if you have moderate-to-severe BPH symptoms, medications have stopped working or cause side effects, or you want a durable fix without major surgery. Dr. Gheiler will evaluate your prostate size, symptoms, and overall health and explain whether GreenLight is the best path for you.
